This initiative involves community leaders and Club professionals working to create an environment that enables young people exhibiting pre-delinquent behavior to become productive members of society. Project components include:
• Participant Identification Identify 50 youth (25 new and 25 existing Club members) to participate in the DPI project based on factors that place them at risk for delinquency.

DPI Program Literacy
The proliferation of gang problems in large and small cities, suburbs, and even rural areas over the last two decades led to the development of a comprehensive, coordinated response to America's gang problem by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
Recent Publications
The OJJDP report Best Practices To Address Community Gang Problems: OJJDP's Comprehensive Gang Model guides communities responding to a gang problem in implementing OJJDP's Comprehensive Gang Model. It describes best practices learned from practitioners experienced in planning and implementing the model and notes findings from evaluations of programs demonstrating the model.
Resources
OJJDP's Strategic Planning Tool was developed to assist in assessing a community's gang problem and planning strategies to deal with it. Communities can catalogue existing local resources by creating a Web-based Community Resource Inventory account accessed on this tool.

GP Fact Sheet
This is a comprehensive gang prevention initiative that uses effective techniques and strategies to direct at-risk youth to positive alternatives. This effort begins with mobilizing community leaders and Club staff to discuss local gang issues, design a community-wide strategy and clarify their roles. Through a referral network with courts, police, other juvenile justice agencies, schools, social service agencies and community organizations, as well as through direct outreach efforts, young people identified as at risk are recruited and mainstreamed into Boys & Girls Club program activities as a diversion from anti-social gang activity.
Once in the Club, youth are welcomed into regular programs. Staff professionals assess individual interests and needs and establish a bond of trust necessary to create a positive sphere of influence and a long-lasting mentor relationship.
We offer programming inside of schools and community entities, at no cost, as an additional resource. Members are encouraged to attend fun and entertaining sessions that provoke change and build character.
Case management is an integral part of the initiative, with proper record keeping and documentation to ensure targeted individuals receive appropriate services through the Club and referral services. On a monthly basis, staff members document progress on a participants goals, such as Club involvement, school performance, involvement with the juvenile justice system, family involvement, referral status and significant problems or achievements. An independent evaluation of GPTTO was recently conducted by Public/Private Ventures. Findings are available at www.ppv.org
